Abstract

Background: Peripheral Arterial Disease is used to describe the impairment of blood flow to extremities as a result of atherosclerotic occlusive disease. Patients with vascular disease have a high risk of mortality, primarily from cardiovascular disease. D-dimer is a product of fibrin degradation by plasmin. Elevated levels of D-dimers are usually considered as marker of increased clotting activity, increased risk of severe atherosclerosis and increased risk of vascular complications. Aims: To study the correlation of D-dimer with the severity of peripheral vascular disease.
