Extent of farming system in Satpura plateau region of Madhya Pradesh

Abstract

The research study entitled “Extent of farming system in Satpura Plateau Region of Madhya Pradesh” has been undertaken for the purpose of study 10 villages from two block of Chhindwara and Betul district were considered. Total 69 farmers of three size groups by the used of proportionate random sampling techniques was selected. Survey method was adopted to conduct the inquiry by personal visit with the help of interview schedule. For estimation of cost and return of different crops, scientific cost concepts were used. In this study all the selected crops divided into two groups i.e. Crop and Horticulture group. The finding of this study that estimation cost of cultivation (C3) under crop group the result shows that the overall the average cost of cultivation (cost C3) per hectare were estimated to be Rs. 32364, Rs. 36909 and Rs. 38747 for small, medium and large size group under selected farming system and horticulture group to be Rs. 51721, Rs. 52892 and Rs. 51790 for small, medium and large size group under selected farming system. Thus it could be concluded that pattern of investment on different crops was near about same in all the categories of size groups. The total cost of cultivation (cost C3) per hectare of all the selected crops increased with the size of land holding. Among the crops, maximum gross income per hectare was found in Cabbage followed by Soybean, Paddy, Maize, Wheat, Gram and Marigold in all the size groups. It was observed to be Rs. 81862, 77632, 103263, 72135, 66198, 45300 and 169560 for Paddy, Maize, Soybean, Wheat, Gram, Marigold and Cabbage respectively. The highest net farm income was observed in Soybean for all the size group and also found that the net farm income increases as size group increased in Gram and Soybean. It could be concluded that existing farming system is profitable business and if area increased under horticulture crop than more profit will received by the farmers in the study area.
