Efficacy of different organic components against major sucking pests of black gram

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted to evaluatethe efficacy of organic components against major sucking pests on blackgram was carried out during two kharif season of 2013 and 2014. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replications. Aphid, jassid whitefly and thrip are major sucking pest of blackgram in India. For the management of these pests eleven indigenous biopesticides were tested along with control. In all experiments, observations were undertaken on mean reduction of the pest after 3rd, 5th, and 7th days of pesticide application. Among the three foliar spray of indigenous biopesticides of T5, comprising foliar spray with indigenous bio-pesticide-1 at vegetative, flowering & grain filling stages as well resulted in causing significantly maximum mean reduction of the sap sucking insects, aphid (60.11 & 61.21%), jassid (57.41& 59.09%), whitefly (55.98 & 57.44%) and thrips (60.04 & 61.93%); whereas, minimum mean reduction in the population of aphid (40.38 & 42.36%), jassid (37.19 & 38.90%), whitefly (39.49 & 40.86%) and thrips (42.72 & 44.62%) were recorded in T10, comprising soil application with Neem cake @ 250kg/ha followed by foliar spray with BD-501 at vegetative, flowering & grain filling stage during 7th days after application of both the years, respectively.
