Abstract

Ayurveda is a science of life from the ancient time, Ayurvedic formulations are safe and effective but adulteration of lower cost material in it reduces the quality of the drug, hence the standardization of herbal drugs is necessary. Tulasi tablets are an Ayurvedic formulation used for cold and cough. Standardization of Tulasi tablet was performed for determination of its standard parameters as per monograph to maintain the safety, uniformity and quality production of the product. Four different manufacturers of Tulasi tablet were compared with laboratory prepared Standard Tulasi tablets. All the parameters tested for the Tulasi tablets were found within the limit excepted the presence of arsenic in two sample, all formulations free from the microbial contamination and other parameters like extractive value, Ash value, moisture content, swelling index, foaming index, phytochemical screening was performed.
