Studies on Soil Fertility Status under Different Land Use Systems in Nagaland

Abstract

A research investigation was undertaken during 2014 to evaluate the fertility status of soils under forest and jhum land use system from twelve different locations covering three districts of Nagaland. The investigation results revealed that the soils of are strongly acidic to moderately acidic with high soil organic carbon, medium to high in available N, low to medium in available K, deficient in available P and adequate in available S. The soils of forest land use system are generally high in nutrient availability than those under jhum land use system. The available P under forest land use system showed positively correlated with the organic carbon (r= 0.695*) and available N (r= 0.602*) while under jhum land use system the available N showed positively correlated with the organic carbon (r= 0.873**).
