Bioefficacy of Botanical Insecticide against Brinjal Fruit and Shoot Borer and Their Impact on Fruit Yield

Abstract

A field trial was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of plant based insecticides against brinjal shoot and fruit borer at the Maheshpur block of Pakur district during kharif season of 2013 and 14. Two foliar sprays of NSKE 5% singly or in combination with other treatments viz., Pheromone trap and shoot clipping evaluated and it was found that all the treatments proved significantly superior (at 5% level) to control (untreated) in reducing the damage of shoot and fruit borer in brinjal. Among all, Pheromone trap followed by two sprays of NSKE 5% proved most effective in reducing shoot damage (54.63%) and fruit damage, on weight basis(57.04%) over control. Pheromone trap followed by two sprays of NSKE 5% recorded the highest marketable fruit yield of 321.7q/ha and lowest was found in case of control (153.60 q/ha). Highest (1:5.1) cost to benefit ratio was also recorded in Pheromone trap followed by two sprays of NSKE 5% and it was followed by Shoot clipping followed by two sprays of NSKE 5% (1:4.6) and two sprays of NSKE 5% (1: 3.4). From these findings, it was concluded that Pheromone trap followed by two sprays of NSKE 5% being the most effective and economic over other treatments, may be incorporated in IPM practices followed against brinjal shoot and fruit borer
