Effect of tying materials on softwood grafting in mango (Mangifera indica L.) Cultivars under middle Gujarat conditions

Abstract

An investigation was carried out at Fruit Nursery, Horticultural Research Farm, B.A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand during Kharif season in the year 2014. There were ten treatments comprising combinations of two different tying materials and five cultivars of mango. The results revealed that among the different type of tying materials and cultivars the highest percentage of sprouted grafts (60.67%), maximum incremental length of scion (11.17 cm) and the highest percentage of healthy grafts (60.00 %) were obtained with Amrutang × Degradable tape while, maximum number of leaves (9.89) was found in Amrutang × Polythene strip after 90 days of grafting. Whereas, incremental girth of scion, incremental length and girth of rootstock and days required to leaf emergence found non-significant results. The scion of Amrutang variety and any tying material either degradable tape or polythene strip found good overall in mango grafting.
