Evaluate the risk factors umbilical cord bacterial infection in calves in Shahrekord city

Abstract

During the study, which was conducted from January 2013 to December 2014, from 20 farms in Shahrekord city with a population of 4,000 cattle, 100 calves with umbilical cord infection was selected and a physical examination were performed. Of confirmed cases in terms of disease to study microbiology and molecular, samples were taken from cord with infected secretions.rnIn this stage, samples were taken from two swap cords secretions, such that these samples at first moistened in sterile saline solution within a sterile condition and then inside one ml of sterile normal saline was transferred to the laboratory of bacteriology & virology.rnThe samples were tested in both bacterial and molecular biology.rnIn order to bacteriology testing, taken swap from the swelled umbilical cord at the base environment of Bacteriology including blood agar and MacConkey agar was cultured and after 24 hours of incubation at 37 °C g again was cultured and catalase and stained tests were performed on growing colonies.rnThe molecular test for the detection of objects such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus agalactiae, Klebsiella pneumoniae testing PCR was used. rnIsolated bacteria factors including: Escherichia coli (34%), Staphylococcus aureus (5/17%), Streptococcus Agalactiae (11%), Pasteurella multocida (5/9%), Proteus vulgaris (5/8%), Actinomyces pyogenes (19%), and Klebsiella pneumoniae were (0/5).
