The Effects of Water Quality Additives on Bacterial Load and Production in Thai Climbing Perch (Anabas testudineus Bloch, 1792) Culture Pond

Abstract

This research was carried out to investigate the effects of commercial water quality additives named aqua cleaner and deotop on bacterial load in Thai climbing perch (Anabas testudineus) culture pond as well as to observe the effects of the additives on the production of climbing perch. The study was conducted under four treatments that were designated as T1(5ml/decimal aqua cleaner and 61g/decimal deotop,T2(10ml/decimal aqua cleaner and 122g/decimal deotop),T3(20ml/decimal aqua cleaner and 244gm/decimal deotop),T4(control without any additives) and each of them with three replicates.T4([(4.99±0.03)×10 4 cfu/ml water], [(5.49±0.09)×10 6 cfu/g soil]) and T3([(3.80±0.58) ×104cfu/ml water], [(4.99±0.23) ×106cfu/g soil]) revealed the highest and lowest average bacterial load in both water and soil of the culture pond respectively whereas the highest production of perch was found in T2(10.23 kg/decimal) followed by T1(8.44 kg/decimal), T3(8.39 kg/decimal), and T4(7.71 kg/decimal).The result from this study suggests that the additives supplemented at a certain dose could decrease the excess bacterial load at a level results in production enhancement.
