Report on folklore medicinal plants used for female health care in Assam (India)

Abstract

The present communication deals with a report on folklore medicinal plants which are used traditionally by rural and tribal peoples of Assam for the treatment of various female health care related disease conditions including various gynaecological problems such as leucorrhoea, dysmenorrhoea, menstruation disorders and pregnancy related issues. Total 101 plant species are recorded against 80 drugs where 49 compound drugs represented by and 87species and 31 single drugs represented by 26 species among which 12 species are repeated in both compound and single drug. Members of the family Piperaceae has found highest uses followed by members of Poaceae, Zingiberaceae, Malvaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Apiaceae etc. which were used by total 14 tribes and 3 communities distributed in various part of Assam.
