Abstract

A novel diffraction grating based on arrayed channel waveguides has been proposed for nanometre-spaced wavelength division multiplexing. A grating with a diffraction order of 20 has been fabricated using a composite glass waveguide. A wavelength resolution of 0.63 nm has been achieved in the 1.3 μm wavelength band.
